Iranian Presidents Visit to Lebanon; Afro-Persian Music: Shanbehzadeh Ensemble

This week, we’ll have a conversation about the significance of Iranian president Ahmadinejad’s visit to Lebanon for both countries and for the region in general. Later in the program, will have a conversation with Saeed Shanbehzadeh leader of the Shanbehzadeh Ensemble about the traditional music and dance of Bushehr, a city located in the South Western part of Iran in the Persian Gulf.

The youngest detainee in Guantanamo Bay; Arab Film Festival

This week, we have a conversation with Lisa Hajjar, associate professor of sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who has been writing about Omar Khadr, the youngest detainee at Guantanamo Bay. Later in the program, we speak with Algerian film maker Lyes Salem, who wrote, directed and starred in the award-winning movie “Masquerades,” which was chosen for the opening night of this year’s Arab film festival.
